What this tool does

A golden cross is the moment a short-term moving average crosses above a long-term one; a death cross is the reverse. Instead of opening charts one by one, this tool scans the top 50 coins by volume on Binance and lists which ones crossed within the last 30 bars, whether the fast line sits above or below the slow one, and how wide the gap is. Choose 50/200 SMA, 20/60 EMA, 9/21 EMA, the MACD signal cross, or your own periods.

How it is calculated

The universe is the top 50 Binance spot USDT pairs by 24-hour quote volume (stablecoins and wrapped tokens excluded, as are dollar-pegged coins trading within ±1% of $1 with a 24-hour range under 1%). For each coin 300 bars are fetched (more for long settings: slow period + 60 for SMA, slow period × 4 + 40 for EMA, up to 1,000) and everything is computed on closed bars only. SMA(n) = average of the last n closes; EMA(n) uses α = 2/(n+1), seeded with the average of the first n closes. MACD = EMA(12) − EMA(26); signal = EMA(9) of MACD. A golden cross is the closed bar where fast > slow after fast ≤ slow on the previous closed bar; a death cross is the reverse. 'Last cross' is the most recent cross within the last 30 closed bars, and 'N bars ago' counts back from the bar in progress (the last closed bar = 1 bar ago). Gap = fast ÷ slow − 1; for MACD, (MACD − signal) ÷ close. 'Converging' means the absolute difference shrank for 3 bars in a row and, at the average rate of those 3 bars, would reach zero within 5 bars. Coins with fewer closed bars than the slow period + 1 (35 for MACD) show 'Not enough data'. Past results use the last 1,000 bars: long only, buy at the next bar's open after a golden cross, sell at the next bar's open after a death cross, 0.1% fee per fill. The scanner recalculates every 5 minutes and the selected chart about once a minute.

Frequently asked questions

What are golden and death crosses?

When a short-term moving average crosses above a long-term one it is called a golden cross; crossing below is a death cross. The classic pair is the 50- and 200-day averages, and in Korea the 20- and 60-day pair is also widely watched. The MACD line crossing its signal line goes by the same names.

My TradingView or exchange chart shows a different cross date.

Usually one of four things: simple (SMA) versus exponential (EMA) averages, a different exchange (a KRW chart on Upbit and a USDT chart on Binance differ slightly), a different daily close time (Binance daily bars close at 00:00 UTC), or whether the bar still in progress is included. This tool only uses closed bars.

What does 'fast above' or 'fast below' mean?

It tells you whether the short-term line is currently above or below the long-term line, the bullish or bearish ordering of the two averages. With the MACD setting it shows whether the MACD line is above or below its signal line.

Does 'Converging' predict a cross?

No. It extends the current pace: the gap between the lines shrank for 3 bars in a row and, at that 3-bar average rate, would close within 5 bars. Gaps often narrow and then widen again.

How are the past results calculated?

On the last 1,000 bars of the selected coin and timeframe, starting from the first bar where both lines exist: buy at the next bar's open after a golden cross and sell at the next bar's open after a death cross. Long only, 0.1% fee per fill, no slippage. It is shown next to the return from simply holding over the same period.
